Finally finished reading this book. I’ve had a copy, like, 3 years ago pa ata but it’s only now that I got to finally finish it. I remember I started reading this when I was pregnant but the pregnant just wants to sleep back then.
Anyway, you all know (well, that’s if you’ve been reading me since time immemorial) that I am huge Nicholas Sparks fan. He is the only celebrity
na pumila ako (and my
bestfriend)
para sa autograph. I just had to meet him personally.
Kalurks!
But I have to admit that while he is still as brilliant as ever, he’s had some misses too. May mga stories sya na medyo waley for me. But I know I just have to read it because, well because he is THE NICHOLAS SPARKS. And that guy made me love reading novels and books. Book nya ang una kong binili using my own money.
Anyway, I am glad that I read Dear John. I
watched the film 6 years ago but it’s only now that I got to read the book finally.
Buti nalang din kasi I totally forgot the plot already.
Gosh. What can I say?
This books is really something. Forte talaga ni Nicholas Sparks ang pagpapakita ng “undying love”, usually he’ll kill off the main character to prove his point but this time it’s different. He made a character live to show people what real love is.
I’m not saying that this is an exceptional book. But this one stands out on its own. Because of the wonderful plot and twist. It was written as beautifully as I expected from NS. The words are powerful. The characters are engaging. What I love most is that they tackled an issue very close to me – people with special needs.
Dear John is a great story of love, family, of selflessness. Now I want to watch the movie again.
Been seeing this on my Nicholas Sparks newsletters and Nicholas Sparks himself has been very excited about this film. I haven’t read it (which is lame and kinda new since I am a huge Nicholas Sparks fan), but I still wanna catch the film. First because I think Josh Duhamel is waaaaayyy too hot and second, I wanna appreciate the movie itself. If I read the book, I know I’d only end up saying the book waaaay better. I love Nicholas Sparks too much. Hahahaha…
Anyway, this film is about a woman with a dark past who run away from her abusive husband and found herself in a small town in North Carolina (I’m not sure if the movie mentioned that they were indeed in North Carolina but we all know that Nicholas Sparks novels are all set in North Carolina for crying out loud!). This is where she met Alex, a widow with 2 kids and well of course they fell inlove and all that romantic cliché.
This movie is slow paced with a lot of romantic scenes and picturesque locations and Josh’s hot body! I love the film but there is something lacking. Maybe the appeal of The Notebook? Or the charisma of A Walk To Remember? I don’t know really. I just know that I loved it but didn’t make it to my favorite Nicholas-Sparks-book-turned-into-movie list.
But of course, it still has that Nicholas Sparks touch that makes it wonderfully written and would really make you believe in love and miracles. I love the ending. I love Jo’s character. I love that she is there to guide and to make Katie feel that she is not stealing something from a dead woman but is actually taking care of the family that Jo can no longer take care.
I love Jo’s letter. Where she told Katie that apart from her husband and 2 kids, Katie is the most important person in her life because she’ll take care of the family she loves and wishes that she loves them dearly. How can you not cry with those ending lines?? HOW?! :)
This is a great Valentine movie. Though I am pretty sure the guys would sneak a couple of minutes of sleep while the girls are glued to the screen. But guys, you still have to bring your girls to catch this film and just tell them that you love her the same way Alex loves Katie and you’re all set. You’ll go home with a more loving girlfriend/wife. Believe me!
xoxo,
Reigne
I’m such a huge Nicholas Sparks fan! Ever since I read A Walk To Remember way back in 2000 (borrowed from my friend Je) and Message In a Bottle (the first non-textbook I owned and bought from my own money - which is now gone – OMG! I feel like crying again.).
Anywaaaaaayyy, there! As I was saying, I adored this man so much that when he visited Manila for the first time, me and my bookworm bestfriend lined up for hours just to get our books signed! I’m telling you, kahit na si Derek yung andun sa Power Books hindi talaga ako gigising ng maaga at lalong hindi ako pipila. @_@
So when G.p gave me a copy of The Wedding last April, I was soo happy. I haven’t read this one for some reason and G.p keep on telling me how great this book is. I guess the reason why I wasn’t able to read it then is because I would appreciate it more now.
I’m not yet married but I’m in a relationship. And ours is not an easy one. Reading this book made me realize a lot of things. It made me analyze some of the things I seem to forget while in a relationship. The effort. The love. The time.
This book is all about falling inlove all over again. To the same person you fall for 30 years ago. Only Nicholas Sparks can write something as beautiful as this. As touching. I know for a fact why, I listened to him talk and that man I saw months ago know love sooo deep that he can create wonderful stories about them.
I recommend this one for those who want a feel-good book. If you want to fall inlove. Like all his books, you’ll learn a thing or two from this one. And you’d end up smiling after.

one of my most loved books! have read it for more than a dozen times and yet, i still feel the same way as though i've read it the first time...
this one is a real tear jerker! like most of nicholas sparks' books- but this one is the closest to my heart...i don't know why...maybe because it speaks of destiny..of choices..of unconditional and undying love..maybe because like theresa, i fell inlove with a total stranger like garret...or maybe because at most times, i felt like garret or theresa...
this one is a must read for those hopeless romantics like me and those who believe in the so called DESTINY! this is for someone who loved, lost and got hurt..someone who's afraid to fall again and yet would want to try...this is for you and me...for all of us..
this is about love..so this is about US!
